Sick of being sick...

I had never broke, cracked, or bruised a rib in my life...until now. I am self-diagnosing myself with a bruised or cracked rib due to coughing. It is very acute pain and very easily irritated with breathing...therefore making this persistant cough intolerable. I hate feeling this way the last few days of the holidays, but at least I don't have to take my personal time. Ugh!

Jaye riding a horse at a friends horse farm three weeks ago.

Well Jaye got sick Thursday night, throwing up. Friday night I started feeling yucky...I mustered up the energy for a bike ride and trip to the park with Jeff and the kids Saturday morning, and was lacking energy the rest of the day. At 5:00 p.m. it all hit and I was officially sick. Jeff had to be at the radio station at 5:00 so there went my help. It is now Sunday...Jaye is completely better...I am gaining strength and Beezer is laying on the floor saying his belly doesn't feel too good. :( Jeff is up stairs sleeping off his 80+ hour week, and I am just praying he doesn't get this. You've got to love daycare and school.

I can feel myself getting a little nervous this week...with packing, planning, and traveling. Michael and Jaye travel very well, even without a portable DVD player, but it takes work to think ahead to that point when you are still 150 km until Kingston...or Toronto...or London, and the kids are bored or hungry. And on top of our usual travels we will be traveling to N. Michigan, to spend a week at a lakefront cabin with my brother, Jason and his wonderful wife, Kelly. The kids are beyond thrilled to be going. I asked Jaye this morning if she was excited to see Aunt Kelly, to which she replied, "I am more than excited to see Aunt Kelly." Michael is even excited to be dunked in the lake by Uncle J J. I miss my family...and am very happy to be given the chance yearly to come home.

This tiger was actually this close to my face...thank goodness there was some good solid glass between him and I. Anyways this picture has nothing to do with what I want to blog about.

7 years ago right now, Jeff was putting an engagement ring on my finger outside of Cracker Barrel. It was quite the time in all of our lives. It is so hard to believe that 7 years have gone by. There have been so many wonderful additions to our lives...Michael and Jaye lead the list off for Jeff and I. Kelly and Jason's marriage was a definite highlight, I mean the fact that it was in Hawaii helped out a bit.

When we think back to all the wonderful things that have happend in our lives our first thought should be to give God the praise. I do thank him for my friends and family, they are wonderful. I thank him even more for their good health and safety. I am also pleased that even though 12 hours separate me from my loved ones Jeff and I have been able to go once, twice, and sometimes even three times to Michigan to see them.

Well I would like to leave you with this. If you are still reading this post, which is longer than usual for me, I obviously love and care for you in some respect, so I would just like you to know that I thank God for you, and your impact on my life.

Well we have had a string of beautiful weather, 4 days of 60's and 70's and ALL SUN! Therefore we decided to try Jaye on a two wheel bike this spring. We weren't sure how it was going to go, but after three tries she was cruising around the cemetary (our practice location). Now after 4 days of practice she is awesome on two wheels. I can't believe she is riding a two wheel bike, she is so big!

Michael's 6th Birthday turned out great. In the morning Megan, Rebecca, Ryan, Uncle Doug, and Aunt Beth left...this left Michael feeling sad as he really connected with them. In the afternoon Jeff's dad was taken suddenly to the ER. On our way from the hospital to his party he said, "this is the worst birthday ever, my cousins left and my grandpa is in the hospital."

Once we removed ourselves from the sadness from the day and found ourselves surrounded by friends and family that loved us, Michael perked up and he had a great time at his party. Thank you to Dave, Sarah, Donna Lynn, Eddie, Jeffrey, Uncle B-Rad, Aunt Sarah, Buddy, and Michaela for helping to make Michael's party awesome. We love you guys.

I love these people. Today was "church day" as the kids call it. We don't watch TV the mornings before church. The kids know this and they don't even ask anymore. I love our mornings before church. Michael was super excited this morning to get his new haircut and Jaye, although fighting a nasty cold, was in a very bubbly happy-go-lucky mood. We also had the annual Community Fair after church. It is nice to get out into the community and see everyone. It also has awesome food from all the local restaurants. Yum yum.

I am sure this is the first of many times, but tonight we were having one of our usual dance parties with the kids. Michael was trying to play his guitar and sing one of his original songs and "Summer of '69" was on aol radio. I started dancing all crazy to that and Michael got annoyed and said, "Mom, that is embarrassing!" I was shocked...me embarrassing? Jeff got a good chuckle out of that. I pouted until Michael took it back. :) All of this happening on a night that Jeff and I found an album of Michael from the spring that he turned one. We were both near tears as we thought back to that time in our lives. Can it really be that Michael is almost 6 AND embarrassed by his mother?

Jaye yelled at me tonight, "you like Michael better than me." That was all because I gave Michael a cough drop and not her. I simply looked at her and off she ran upstairs to cry and cry and cry. She is such a dramatic little creature, I just can't figure it out.

On another note, Michael was given the cough drop because he has a horrible cough. His little vein on his forhead pops out. It is absolutely miserable to watch him in his coughing fits. Poor little duffer...but I DON'T love him more than the girl. That is just silly.

We took our kids to a hat modeling photo shoot that they agreed to do. We were so excited about it...maybe too excited. Michael and Jaye are beautiful kids and take great pictures, so we were naturally excited to expose their beauty in a catalog. They made it into the building, they watched another child pose for pictures and then it all went down the crapper. When it came time for them to pose they fought over who was going to go first which was just a stall tactic. They cried and threw fits. We all left very upset. NO PICTURES TAKEN! The worst moment on record as a parent.

The giraffe was my absolute FAVORITE. They were amazing,

and not just because I can relate to them...ha ha ha because I am tall.

The giraffe loved me too, this was not even zoomed. He was only 6 inches from my face.

This big guy snuck up behind me and gave me a scare by peeking into my window.

The camels were so cute lumbering around the cars, they were amazingly gentle.

The zebras were beautiful, but spoiled. We were instructed not to feed the zebras because they bite, but we found out they will bite if you don't have food. We did not buy any food for the animals cause we were cheap, and this guy stuck his head in our car looking for food and when he came up short he bit at Jeff 3 times. Crazy!

Just kidding...it is just the first day of what seems like a really long time. School, I can't believe that we have a child in school, time has truly flown by. Michael LOVED his first day of school. The teacher had activities for parents to do with their children and gave us time to hang out for a little while on the first day. I told Michael that I would be leaving in 15 minutes and he told me I could "go right then, he didn't need me to stay any longer." I was thrilled and crushed all in one. He is such a big boy, and he looks forward to this long weekend being over so he can go back...it is great to see him so excited.

Champlain Valley Fair 2007

This past weekend we went to the land of tractors, ponies, sno kones, and mother large cows. We had a great time at the fair this weekend. The best part every year is seeing the kids faces as we pull into the parking lot and seeing their mouths drop as they see the Ferris wheel, grand stand, and all the commotion. I love it.

The Floating Bridge

Last Friday we drove down to the floating bridge in Brookfield, VT. It was pretty neat, because as you drove onto the bridge you felt as though you were driving into the lake. Apparently the bridge is floating on a bunch of barrels...it was pretty neat, and apparently a great swimming spot.

Sarah and Betty Ann took this picture and as I was taking a picture of their car going across, Jaye followed me to the middle of the bridge and slipped on the mossy stuff in the first rut. She hit her head pretty hard on the sidewalk. Oh the joy.

This is a picture of Jeff, Michael, and Jaye heading up Ricker Mountain. It was a lot of fun hiking with the kids, except for the fact that Jaye was starving 5 minutes into the hike and the hike lasted 3 hours. Oh well, next time we will bring a snack. :)
This was a historical hike with lots of cool things to see. Two hundred years ago there was a whole little community on this mountain and there were plaques describing the people who lived on the mountain and the homes they lived in. There were still stone foundations, tools, wells, cemetary's and other things left to see. It was a good time.

Heat Wave...

Wow...it seems as though the heat wave is breaking. Lots of water and sleeping down stairs where you can actually breathe has helped. These are the days that I hate working...I just want to stay home and take my kiddos to the beach. Oh well, soon enough.

Last Wednesday night we were recovering from our 6.2 mile hike and preparing for Maine the next day. That is crazy. Okay...Jaye just dumped here plate of eggs to make room for ice cream, WHERE IS AUNT KELLY.

Well Jason, Kelly, Ben, and Jo just left the driveway. I am sad. I know I will see them in just a month, but when I say good-bye it always reminds me of the distance between my brothers and I. I hate the fact that the road to Michigan is so long. I cherish my time spent with my family and I praise God for the time he gives us, but I am always sad when the time comes to an end. How can I not be?

What an eventful week we have ahead of us. I just hope it doesn't go too quickly. Cider House, kayaking, t-ball, hiking, graduation, camping, beaches, Maine, Loaded Questions, and time spent talking, laughing, and enjoying family. I can't wait to see everyone Saturday morning. We love you guys and please have a safe trip.

Memorial Day weekend consisted of Jaye singing a solo at church Sunday morning, "America, the Beautiful." She did an awesome job, so cute. On Monday we took the boat out for a spin around the newly filled reservoir here in Waterbury Center. It was all fun, until we reached about about a mile out from the boat ramp and the motor clunked out. It was actually still fun as Jeff and I rowed out around a jut so the wind would be on our side pushing us back. Mike worked on the motor while Sharon and the kids sang rounds of "Row Row Row Your Boat. " It was a good time with good views. We ended with a campfire at our house, where Jaye passed out in Grompa's arms, see www.mjaye.blogspot.com for pics of that.

Big Mike and Neil hit the open road a few weeks ago. Now in a few more weeks Jason, Kelly, Ben, and Jo will be hitting it. I can't wait. I love family, it is so much fun spending time with everyone. Good times.

The Journey was Good...

We had a nice climb...well sort of. A little too icy, cold, and cloudy. I have been told it is not about the destination, but rather the journey. I thought it was a load of garbage, until the climb. I enjoyed the conversations we had...good times. We then went to Huntington Gorge on our way home. You would have to see the gorge for yourself to see why I am holding on to Big Mike so tight in that last picture.

"My Pocket is Getting Hot..."

This is what we heard at dinner last night. Let me paint the scene for you... Chef Big Mike had marinated some pork chops in VT maple syrup, honey, and cane sugar. I had made Stove Top cornbread stuffing (which I then baked to make it crunchy), and we had succotash...a new thing for Big Mike (and he liked it). Anyhow the kids were watching TV as it was 7:30 pm and they had already eaten. It was a nice relaxing dinner, everyone was enjoying the pork chops which pleased Big Mike as his chicken was "lacking flavor" the previous night. Anyhow we were relaxing until we heard Neil (in previous post picture) yell and toss all contents of his pocket onto the table. We were thinking he had lost it until we passed around a quarter from his pocket and realized he was fine, it was his pocket that was strange. The quarter was piping hot, but why? Here is a list of what was in Neil's pocket: two AA batteries, the keys to the Freestyle, and probably 43 cents in change? Something interacted with something else and the stuff in Neil's pocket could hardly be held. Poor Neil, he goes from enjoying a nice pork chop to blistering his thigh. Anything is possible I guess.
